Genearl Description:

The Oud, also known as Barbat, is a traditional stringed musical instrument prominent in Middle Eastern and North African music. After Tanboor, Oud is the oldest string instrument in the middle east dating back to 800 B.C . In some books, the invention of this instrument is ascribed to Barbad. With its pear-shaped body, short neck, and frets, the Oud is often considered a precursor to the European lute. It typically features 11 or 13 strings, which can be played in various tunings to create a rich and resonant sound.

The Oud is renowned for its warm, melodic tones, making it a central instrument in many folk and classical music traditions. Musicians use a plectrum, or "risha," to pluck the strings, producing intricate melodies and intricate ornamentation. The instrument's versatility allows it to be used in solo performances, as well as in ensemble settings, blending beautifully with various instruments.
